Vieja bifasiata, commonly known as the twoband cichlid or red-spotted cichlid, is a beautiful and colorful fish species that adds vibrancy to any aquatic environment. With the two distinctive horizontal lines running between its eyes, and bright red spots, the mature fish is sure to catch the eye of any hobbyist. Most accurately described as herbivorous, this fish will graze on algae and vegetation in the wild. Thus a diet high in vegetable content is important to keep optimal health.
A large and moderately aggressive fish, temperament can vary greatly from fish to fish. Males are significantly more colorful than females.
