General Information

Acclimation of Fish

  • Float the unopened bag, containing your fish, in their new habitat/aquarium for at least 20 minutes to allow the water in the bag to adjust to the temperature in the aquarium.
  • Turn off the aquarium light during this process to avoid it warming the water in the bag. It is also less stressful on the fish having spent the last 24+ hours in a dark box.
  • Once 20 minutes have passed, carefully open the bag and pour half of the water, with the fish, into another container: a clean bucket will suffice. Throw out the remaining water in the bag.
  • Now add the equivalent amount of water from their new habitat to that bucket: you will then have 50% bag water and 50% aquarium water in the bucket with the fish.
  • Leave them in the bucket for about 4 minutes, then gently pour half the water out of the bucket and again add the same volume of aquarium water to the bucket.
  • Repeat this process one more time.
  • Now, using a small net, remove the fish from the bucket and release them into their new habitat. Do not pour any of the bucket water into the aquarium with the fish.

Fish Appearance

Fish change in appearance depending on many factors and will naturally lose color during shipping, often appearing faded upon arrival.

Pictures are used as examples only and may be of mature fish with full color, or juvenile fish without color. We encourage you to research the species, prior to ordering, in order to familiarize yourself with the various appearances they may take on.

Many species also have females that look drastically different to their male counterparts and many juveniles will not have as much color as, or sometimes even different colors from, their adult forms.
