Threadfin Acara
Threadfin Acara
Heckelii (Acarichthys heckelii) are a stunning South American Cichlid which, as they mature, develop remarkable filament-like extensions on their dorsal fin. Hence their other common name, the Threadfin Acara.
Adults have iridescent blue-green and bright yellow markings and the scales on their sides reflect light making it appear that they have bright neon lights attached to them. The males are especially colorful.
A favorite among cichlid enthusiasts due to their unusually peaceful nature, they will normally not prey on anything larger than a couple of centimeters in size.
Not a fussy eater, supplement pellets or flake with bloodworm, or brine shrimp, and include some vegetable matter to bring out their best.
