Redtail Tinfoil Barb
Redtail Tinfoil Barb
The Redtail Tinfoil (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) one of the most eye-catching species in the aquarium trade given its fast-moving and schooling behavior. While most Tinfoils do not develop their red tail, dorsal, and anal fins until they have matured, our fish have been specifically bred to display the red fins as juveniles of only 1.5” inches.
Native to Southeast Asia, they are friendly, non-aggressive fish that do best in schools of 4 or more and will swim in the middle (or lower) part of an aquarium. They are easy to feed preferring plant matter you can give them spinach and algae, along with a high quality flake. They do have a tendency to over eat, so do not over feed them. They are a hardy fish that can live in a variety of ph levels and water temperatures, but can’t tolerate a lack of aeration, or low oxygen levels, so a good filtration system and oxygenation is key.
