Red Head Tapajos
Red Head Tapajos
As its name suggests, the Red Head Tapajos has a visually striking red coloration on the head and throat area, adding a nice bit of "bling" in contrast to the rest of its body. Immature Red Tapajos tend to show less coloration and will have five dark parallel, vertical bars which become especially pronounced when stressed.
A relatively peaceful fish, the Geophagus sp. does well in community aquariums with other non-aggressive fish... just give them some hiding spots and a sandy bottom as; they are "earth eaters", sifting mouthfuls of sand to extract food.
They are social fish, so keeping them in groups of 4 or more is encouraged. In captivity they grow to a maximum size of about 6", with the male being the larger.
