Gymnogeophagus Balzani, like all eartheaters, require a sandy substrate on the tank bottom as they gather food morsels by sifting sand through their gills.
Pictured is one of the 5 to 6 inch males we have for sale. These fish have a very distinct "hatchet head" and stunning elongated dorsal fin making for a prize center piece in any hobbyist's aquarium.
They prefer cool temperatures (below 78 F); therefore, depending on where you live, do not necessarily require a heater. Maximum size is 7".

Breeding: Captive bred on our farm.
